The only thing I noticed during my testing was that you fall like a feather its like you can glide to the ground. I didn't have much room to test falling so it may just be the limited space or something. The terrain looked great and I'm not sure what a alpha changed object is but I think it might mean those boxes that were turned sideways.

No issues for me also.

Can the position of the text on the intro screen be changed or is it a fixed position?

I know what you're saying and I didn't really like the way the player fell, either. Perhaps this could be user definable (gravity, speed of acceleration when falling, etc.) because the speed of falling should accelerate up to a maximum speed in order to appear realistic.

- little bit of anti-aliasing
- assuming snap to grid is available, joints would be made better
- no shadows
- spherical collision
- it appears to be un-governed. The sky flys by pretty fast on my dual-core. There should be a maximum FPS set.
- it appears to be multi-core threaded. Both cores were working flat out. This is a good thing.

works fine on VistaHP

FINALLY a fall factor, so you don't fall like a rock.

I like the effect of the 'glide' but one question: can the gravity be changed?
Other than that, absolutely stunning. I see no bugs

Very nice, I noticed no issues, but I'd like it if some of the nicer graphics that the Blitz engine can support were shown off here. Otherwise, I'm glad that the program's making progress! Keep it up!

An awesome lil demo indeed!

I'd like to see the dropping down thing improved but I assume it was slow cus its just a test and what not. Also id love to see some high textures used to truely show off the new engine!

Also the main menu rocked!

One last question persh,

does the engine have shadow effects or anythign else like that? and can you save and load oh oh oh and can you make things encrypted (as an optional choice)

ARGH just played it again and man I cannot wait for SW2!! It's gonna be so awesome and especially since it can now handle so muchy more with no lag <3

This looks very good! I am really looking forward to Silent Walk 2! I do have a question, will the ability to climb into and out of vehicles be included?

I think that's slightly ambitious for the first release lol. But who knows what the future holds

Thank you for everyone to try and test it.

I'd like to answer some of the questions.

[speed issues]
- FPS is limited to 60 (even if you have a NASA rocket-launcher PC is) :-)

Editable parameters:

[gravity related]
- gravity (acceleration speed)
- maximum gravity
- strength of jump

[rendering related]
- screen size (width/height)
- fullscreen/window mode
- antialising is on
- dithering is on

[title/menu related]
- background image
- music
- normal / mouseover image (and position) of buttons

[in game stuff]
- sky image
- sky height
- sky movement speed (and direction)

[vehicles]
- well, not yet :)

[shadows]
- no shadows are available yet

This was cool but the ramps were a little unreal and when I fell of a ramp I turned in the air and started flying that direction.

Very smooth rendering! Blitz3D and Silent Walk is a tasty combination. You fell slowly, though. But I kind of liked that for some reason. But don't worry to all those who said the player fell weird, you can edit that.

I'm happy the game renders so fast! It's a HUGE improvement over SW1. I think I'll play it again! I'm also happy it uses a game engine, not a game maker. I'm trying to stop using Game Maker for Blitzmax, which I like more.

EDIT: Yay! You have actual collision detection! (Other than just collision boxes)

Wow, the move to blitz3D really did the job. I'm wondering if I should look into it.

Blitzbasic has a great framerate, lots of modules, many IDEs, and an easy-to-learn BASIC language. The only downside is it costs $100 for Blitz3d, $80 for Blitzmax, and $60 for Blitzplus... which isn't that bad for what you get. Since you're into 3D but you like Game Maker, Blitz3D is a very good choice. Just don't be intimidated by the code at first; it's very easy once you figure it out which won't take more than a few days. I wrote my first game in less then a week found URL is hidden from guests, please register and login to view the hyperlink with Blitzmax. Just find some tutorials and you have it. You'll like the 3D a lot more than Game Maker, which really isn't meant for 3D in the first place.

Yay, looking at that one screeny makes me want to play it now, but I can't currently.

I also have a question, will there be the available feature of an 'options' menu so if someone with a less higher-end computer (theres a few on the forums) wanted to turn some of the texture quality or AA (anti-aliasing) off or down so it will run better on their computers?

Thanks,

You should increase the gravity, player is falling to long.
Textures, sound etc sould be putted in separated folders (or in the best way - WinRar-like archives).
I know that making programs is your work, but please, make it freeware.

I can't wait for it. Really great work.
Are you going to add some RPG features (like some basic statistics or gaining the experience)?

Try this. Open the map04.bmp file in windows paint. Put a one pixel dot snow white at 64,64 /save and run. See what you get.

Now define a custom colour and change jet black with lum = 0 by sliding the right slider to lum = 20 and save as custom colour and apply at 64,64
