It seems that so often, a new user will join, and ask a question that's been asked a thousand times already. Although we are all happy to help newbies, it does get annoying that people don't look for the answer first.

It sparked in my mind that there should be a F.A.Q. to help people who need it. Feel free to post your own questions in this thread, as I/we will attempt to answer them.

PLEASE NOTE: Please read through this thread for an answer before posting a question. Any repetitions will be deleted without hesitation.

Here I have a few that I have encountered often:

Q: I make my level in the editor, but when I play it, all I get is a black screen!
A: Either you have not set the start level, or you have no lights. To set the start level, click the "Project Details" button in the main editor, and select your level. It should be fine after that.

Q: When I start the editor, all I get is a black screen and/or a "Memory Access Violation," what's wrong?
A: If you encounter this particular issue, chances are you are using Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7. If this is the case, select "Run as Administrator" and then try again.

Q: I made a .3DS model. How do I get it to animate?
A: .3DS models cannot store animations. Silent Walk 2 only accepts Blitz Basic models (.b3d).

Q: How do I animate, then?
A: While this question is not really to do with Silent Walk, I think I should still put it here. There are a number of shareware programs on the internet that are easy to learn and inexpensive. Try Fragmotion or Milkshape 3d.

Q: Whenever I export my game, I get a Memory Access Violation, and the programme closes. What is wong?
A: I suffered this issue also.
It is due to a multitude of problems. It is a Blitz issue, to do with the code. You may have invalid files, or a wierd shortcut. As far as we know, there is no remedy to this. Just keep your files organised and don't go moving stuff around.

Q: How do I make allies in Silent Walk?
A: There is not any real way to make allies that fight 'with you,' but it is possible to make civilians and generally passive characters in your levels.
Opening up the properties of an actor, click the 'general' tab. Check the box that says 'don't attack the player.' This will, as the name implies, prevent the actors from shooting at, chasing, and generally causing harm to the player.

Here are some possible solutions to the MAV offered by Fatmanpez.

So one way or another everyone gets the memory access violation of death making it impossible to work on your projects, well here are a few solutions we have came up with

problem: I have windows 7 or vista and cannot open silent walk 2

solution: right click, click "run as administrator"

problem: i imported a texture or model and i got the memory access violation once imported and or added to scene?

solution: take out thew asset and check the format and poly count, if your video card cant handle the model silent walk 2 may not be able to render it

problem:I loaded my project level and received the memory access violation

solution: make sure all used assets are present in the silent walk 2 folders, make sure no assets were added to the folders without the use of silent walk 2

That's all I can think of now.[/quote]
